Janet Elaine (Alchin) Hill

Janet was born on March 19, 1948. While she held many roles throughout her life, the one she treasured most was being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved.

She had a passion for genealogy and spent countless hours researching her family’s history, preserving stories and connections for future generations. Every spring, Janet also looked forward to her annual mushroom hunting trips with her dear friends, the “Mushrooming Mommas.” The group shared many laughs over the years, often joking, “Look by Janet’s feet and you’ll find them,” because despite her love for morel hunting, she somehow never seemed to spot the mushrooms herself. Those treasured traditions and friendships brought her endless happiness.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Everett H. Alchin and Betty L. VanRiper; her brother, Tracy L. Alchin; her beloved husband, Gregory E. Hill; her son, Gregory E. Hill Jr.; and two great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dianna L. Hack (Noel Hack), Stephanie A. Hill, and Sarah J. Hill; her seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A memorial service celebrating Janet’s life will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 431 E. Saginaw St., East Lansing, Michigan 48823. The memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon at 11:30 a.m.

Following the memorial, Janet will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, where they will be together once again.

Janet’s kindness, quiet strength, unwavering love for her family, and the memories she created with those closest to her will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
