A Memorial gathering will take place on Friday, July 20, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Wheatfield Township Hall, located on 985 Holt Road, Williamston, 48895.
She was born June 11, 1916, on a farm in Mason, Michigan. She was married to LaVern Soule (who predeceased her in 2010) for 71 years. Together they had three sons: William (Leslie), James (Sherree), and Thomas (Carolyn), who she always referred to as "Bill, Jim, and Tom".
Jean was predeceased by her two older sisters, Eileen (Charles) Laing and Anne (Emery) Artz. She is survived by her two younger sisters, Eleanor (Lawrence) Simpson and Ina (Richard) Lyon; her three sons; her grandchildren, Douglas Soule, Melissa (Phillip) Batch, Jennifer Soule, Kimberly (Michael) Keefe, and Stephanie (Matthew) Shreffler; and her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Isabella, Patrick, Matthew, and Philip.
Jean was very proud of her Scottish ancestry, her family's Centennial Farm, and her family history as Ingham County pioneers. Her life began in a house with no electricity that became a model in an early rural electrification program in Ingham County. She kept the family stories alive. Jean was an example of the women of her era who worked tirelessly in the home and on the farm while also serving her country and community. Jean canned hundreds of jars of fruits and vegetables each year. During WWII she was a Civil Defense volunteer. She worked at the Ingham County Courthouse and served as Wheatfield Township Clerk. She also was employed at the Hines Insurance Agency and volunteered with the Rebekah Lodge. Jean loved to grow, arrange, and give flowers. Her granddaughters have fond memories of baking Christmas cookies at grandma's house, and her grandson of playing "the marble game." The family treasures the memories she made for all.
