John H. Brazier passed away peacefully on August 4th of 2015 at the age of 87. He was born July 3rd of 1928 in Milwaukee, and had two brothers, Nick and Lee.
John became a teacher and was posted to a one-room schoolhouse in Racine County, Wisconsin. In Racine he met Betty, another teacher, who became his beloved wife of 54 years. He was drafted into the Army and served with honor at Fort Leonard Wood from 1953-55. Upon his release from service, he became a map salesman to school districts for several years before moving to Michigan in the sixties and once again returning to teaching, this time at Cornell, and later Kinewa Middle School in Okemos, where he taught until his retirement in 1989.
John was also had many hobbies and interests, including raising and showing harrier dogs and Arabian horses. He served as president of the Arabian Horse Association of Michigan and also managed the Michigan State Fair Horse Show for several years. Through the inadvertent influence of his son, he took up the sport of fencing. In later years he won election as a Wheatfield Township trustee where he served until 2010.
He was a fan of live music, jazz in particular, and saw many of the greats in their heyday.
He had a generous and upbeat attitude, which made him a great many friends. His laugh was easy and his spirit was kind, and he touched the lives of all around him.
He is survived by his son, Jay.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday August 29, 2015 at 2pm at Wheatfield Twp. Hall, 985 E. Holt Rd., Williamston.
