J. Paul Thorne, age 93, passed away April 28th in Williamston, MI. with family by his side. Paul grew up in Bay City, MI. and graduated with an engineering degree from Michigan State University. He served in the Army during World War II and achieved the rank of Captain. After completing his duty in the Army, Paul returned to Bay City where he worked for NEWCOR Inc. until he retired. During his career at NEWCOR he held many patents and received honors for his work in research and development. He lived in Brussels, Belgium and Windsor, Canada overseeing operations for NEWCOR and also traveled to Japan and Mexico. After retirement Paul and Bettie enjoyed winters in Siesta Key, Florida and summers back in Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father John J. Thorne, his mother Leona Thorne, his brother Robert Thorne, son Robert (Bobby) Thorne, and his dog, Zippy. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bettie and their children David (Mary) Thorne of Midland, Barbara (Michael) Holz of Newton, MA., Paula (Alan) Weatherwax of Williamston, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on June 26th at 3:00 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E. Middle St., Williamston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
