

Joseph Wallace Ray of Williamston passed away on June 22nd, 2023, at the age of 71. Joe was born on January 6th of 1952 to John and Norma Ray. Joe was a proud member of the Williamston community who brightened many people's day. Joe spent his working days out on the open road as a truck driver, it was a labor of love. After retirement, Joe continued to work at Star Leasing Company, Red Cedar Auto, Christians Greenhouse, and the farm. Joe was attending MSU where he became a Spartans fan and met the love of his life, Kathy. Joe and Kathy were married on May 6th, 1972. They spent 44 wonderful years together raising a family and later enjoying their grandchildren.
Joe was a loving and kind man. He treasured his family and the time he had with them. Joe understood that there was a pleasure in taking in the simple thing in life. The small things like bird watching with Kathy, going for a drive, or appreciating a good breakfast at his favorite spot, Ellie’s Country Kitchen. Joe was one for a good time, playing just as hard as he worked. Along with being a Spartans fan he also enjoyed watching a Detroit Tigers game. Joe was excited about his trips to Soaring Eagle Casino, anticipating his next big win. Joe was known for being compassionate and giving. He gave throughout his life to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Joe took the time to learn about autism, wanting to better connect with and understand his granddaughter, Dominique. She has a special place in his big heart. There was always love to go around from Joe. He put in the effort to listen to others and be a friend to anyone around.
Joe was preceded in death by His parents; John and Norma Ray, his beloved wife Kathy Ray, and his sister-in-law Linda Ray.
Joe is survived by his two cherished daughters; Michelle (Mike) Bocek, and Jennifer (Jeff) Conner, his adored Grandchildren; Derek Bocek, Brooklyn Bocek, and Dominique Conner, his dear siblings James “Jim” (Cindy) Ray, and Johanna (Danny) Hopkins. His beloved in-laws, Rick and Tammy Schwinke, and Sue Smith. He is survived by his many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.
Joe was a special person and lived life by showing kindness. Once Joe declared you family, you were always family. He loved everyone as he would his kin. His ability for warmth was as great as his dedication to hard work. He was a simple and humble man who impacted many lives and left an impression on Williamston that will be missed.
