Kathryn (Kay) Schoff Nederveld, age 75, of Williamston, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on February 4, 1950, to the late Jean and Harold Powell, Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
A lifelong member of the Williamston community, Kay both grew up and raised her own family there, creating a loving and welcoming home filled with laughter, kindness, and more home-baked goods than any one family could hope to enjoy. She dedicated over 30 years to Williamston Community Schools—first as a school bus driver and later as the district’s transportation director. Without a doubt, Kay knew every inch of the district and ensured the community’s children had a safe start and end to their school days. Following her retirement from the school district, Kay joined her husband at Capital City International, coordinating school bus sales throughout Michigan. After fully retiring in 2018, she spent summers at her cottage up north, never taking for granted the beauty and serenity she found there.
Kay was preceded in death by her beloved son, Ben Schoff. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Bruce Nederveld; daughter, Jennifer Schoff Kinsey; son-in-law, Jon Kinsey; and cherished granddaughters, Anna and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her former husband, Bill Schoff, along with many dear siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Kay was known for her strong work ethic, approaching every task–big or small–with pride, tireless energy, and deep respect for others. She had a profound sense of responsibility to her family, friends, and colleagues, and in all she did, Kay embodied generosity, integrity, and a quiet strength that provided a great example to those who loved her.
Per Kay’s wishes, cremation has taken place with private family services to be held at a later date. To honor her memory, donations may be made to the Williamston Schools Foundation.
