Linda was the first grandchild of her grandmother, Esther Mae Rolfe, from whom she received her middle name. Additionally, she was born on her maternal grandmother’s birthday, Grace Ross. She had many great memories of the love she received from each of her grandmothers, and was deeply influenced by their Christian faith. Her mother and father encouraged Linda to serve in the church nursery and to teach Sunday school classes as a teenager.
Linda believed that the greatest job on earth was being a stay home mother, and that God’s greatest creation was a child. Her three sons were blessed growing up with a mom who had cookies ready for them when they returned from school. During summer she taught child evangelism classes on our lawn for the neighborhood children. Linda had more children’s books and knew more nursery rhymes than most people.
Linda had a quick wit, a servant’s attitude, a love for both music and theater, but never cared about sports. She was known for her many skills, such as baking cookies and pies, making jam, reading books, giving gifts, sewing quilts, gardening, and spending time with her family. She knew the love of Christ and this love was displayed in her life.
When her children reached senior high school, she began working the office at her father’s electrical contracting company, where she would remain for 25 years. Afterwards, Linda volunteered as a para-professional for a couple of years at Holt elementary school. She spent time caring for her parents in their later years. She and her husband retired to Manistee, Michigan where they became active in their Church, and where Linda taught preschool and kindergarten-aged children.
