Mabel, ‘Peanuts’ to her friends and family, was born March 10, 1916 to Luther and Helen (Case) Hawley, and called home to be with her Savior on October 18, 2015, at the age of 99. She was raised in Perry and worked in Owosso before her marriage to David Laux of Perry.
Mabel loved her family and being a homemaker. She was a great cook and a fabulous baker and was famous for her cinnamon rolls and banana cakes with caramel frosting. She put other people before herself, and never wanted attention drawn to her.
Mabel is preceded in death by her husband David (1995), her beloved son Dennis Laux (2005) and grandson Jason Laux (2003); also her sister, Lucille and brother Luther, Jr.
Her survivors include three children: Sharon Spalding of Republic of Panama, Dan Laux of Webberville, and Don Laux and wife, Sheri, of Perry. Extended family includes 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Mabel is also survived by a brother Vaughn Hawley and wife, Margaret of Owosso; and two sisters, Jeannette Morgan of Owosso; and Joanne Oesterle and husband Ray of Peoria, AZ.
A very special thank you goes to Sheri Laux (Mabel’s beloved daughter-in-law) for the loving care she gave to Mabel the last year of her life.
A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E. Middle Street in Williamston. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 20, from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice House of Shiawassee County, 2005 E. Copas Road, Owosso, MI 48867 in honor of Mabel.
