BIRMINGHAM, MI - Marilyn June Winsand, age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on November 1, 2018. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on March 28, 1928.

Marilyn graduated from Michigan State University in 1950 with a B.A. in Education. After a brief teaching career, she shifted focus to give birth and raise 5 children as a full-time domestic engineer. Marilyn was an avid knitter, chef, tennis player, event planner, wine aficionado, stock investor and writer. She wrote, co-wrote and self-published over 20 books (cookbooks, memoirs, children books and travel logs). For 38 years, she volunteered her time to write and produce the monthly newsletter for Lutheran Church of the Master, with the final edition published December 2017. Marilyn and her husband Amos traveled the world and experienced the culture of more than 80 countries. As a team, Marilyn and Amos volunteered time and efforts at the American Welding Society since 1964, with a special focus on promoting educational opportunities to advance America’s leadership in the science, technology and application of welding worldwide.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and William Capen. She is survived by Amos, her beloved husband of 66 years; 5 children, Mary Ellyn (Dave), Bill (Carol), Amy (Don), Bobby and Nancy; 11 grandchildren Jill, Erik (Cara), Madison (Calvin), Krista, Landry, Alyssa (Luke), Bronte (Dillon), Max, Margeaux, Alex and Chloe; 2 great grandchildren (Jordyn and Piper). Her guidance, words of wisdom and zest for life will be greatly missed by family and friends.

There will be a celebration of life memorial service at Lutheran Church of the Master (3333 Coolidge Hwy Troy, MI) on Saturday December 1st at 11:00am. The family will receive guests starting at 10:30am. A casual luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the service.
