Mark was a beloved husband, father, son and friend. He was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family. Among the many joys of his life, his deepest love and support were reserved for his cherished children Allison and Mack.
He had a deep passion for North American history, particularly the history of Indigenous Peoples. This love led him to pursue a career as the Education Coordinator at the Nokomis Learning Center in Okemos, where he dedicated his time and knowledge to educating others about the rich heritage of Indigenous Peoples.
In addition to his work at the Nokomis Learning Center, Mark immersed himself in the study of primitive bow making and flintknapping. He cherished the opportunity to learn these ancient crafts and embraced the connection they provided to the skills and traditions of Indigenous Peoples. Mark's dedication and expertise in these areas earned him the honor of creating several museum exhibits showcasing the vibrant culture and history of the Great Lakes Indigenous Peoples.
Mark had a deep connection with animals, especially his cherished wolves. These beloved animals held a special place in Mark's heart, bringing him joy, companionship, and a unique connection to the natural world.
Mark was an accomplished musician and songwriter. As a lead guitarist Mark's musical prowess led him to be an integral part of several bands throughout his life, where he shared his passion for music with others.
Even during his final days, the bond between Mark and his musical brothers remained unbreakable. Their unwavering friendship and support brought comfort and joy to his journey, reminding us all of the power of music to uplift and unite.
Mark held many jobs in his lifetime, but none he loved more than teaching. After attending cosmetology school he became an instructor at Douglas J. He enjoyed passing his knowledge on to his students.
Mark is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife Rachel, mother Lois Ann Waters, his children Allison (Joel) Frith and Mack Waters, step-daughters Allison, Tabitha and Samantha and his grandson Tommy. He was preceded in death by his father Paul, with whom he had a very special bond. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
