Robert Lee West

Robert was born on December 3rd, 1942 in Lansing Michigan to parents Edgar Clare West and mother Versal Arilla (Rupright) West. He was married to Judith Ann Russell from 1969-1972.

Robert attended Williamston High School and graduated in 1962. He then joined the U.S Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and was officially discharged in 1969. He then worked at General Motors on the Assembly Line from 1978 until 2005.

He resided in Webberville, MI where he could be found enjoying some of his hobbies, which included: any and all board games and card games, vacationing up north at Mullet Lake, and last but not least, playing with and taking care of his cats. Robert could be described as the life of the party, in his younger years, he was a dancer, drinker and has always been an animal lover.

Robert is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Anne (Christopher) Gardner of Flushing, MI, Grandchildren Scott Austin Helsel (Dallas, TX), Paul Robert Helsel (Dallas, TX), Caitlin Marie Sotny (Austin, TX), Zachary Aaron Sotny (Allen, TX), Great-Grandchild Claire Joyce Turner (Flushing, MI), Brother Donald E. West (Lansing), Nieces and Nephews Kevin Chard, Kim Underhill, Kerry Steiner, Lori Frazier, Carl Frazier, Carlene Frazier, Susan Knepp, and Jeffery West, and Sister-in-law Catherine Jane West.

He is predeceased by daughter Heather Marie Sotny (2013), Siblings Carlene Jean Frazier (1993), and Marlene Mae Chard (2008).

It is difficult to sum someone’s life up in three words, but three words that would best describe Robert would be steadfast, independent and genial. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.

On June 27th, 2024 services will be held at St. Mary's Church. Visitation will start at 10:30 AM, Catholic Mass will be at 11 AM. A Committal service will be held at Mt. Cavalry following Mass, and a reception to follow at St. Mary's.
