I’m so shocked to hear this. Such fond memories of good times! RIP Rigsey!

Where do I begin?  This is heartbreaking. To the family, I am sorry for your loss, May God gives you strength to endure this pain. Ryan was an amazing human being. He was my manager at Ascension, the best manager I ever had, kind, loving, always smiling, always willing to help. There was always something special about him….his  presence just brought comfort and peace. Rest in peace Ryan. You will be missed.

Ryan Riggs was a true force of nature. A man like no other. Funniest person I have ever known, and I still hear his laughter echoing in my ears. He lived a fuller life than most people twice his age. He traveled the country, ate all the best foods, played golf at the best courses, and made people smile the whole way. He was one of my oldest and best friends, one of my groomsmen, the friend I reminisced with the most. No amount of words can convey his presence in my heart and the hole left by his absence.

A goodbye I never saw coming. I still can’t believe you’re gone. I met Ryan when I was working at Ascension in 2018. An opportunity arrived to apply to the off-shift supervisor position. I applied and Ryan gave me a chance to become a leader. Ryan showed me what it takes to be in a leadership position. He was inspirational during the pandemic. I remember him helping us establish the rapid COVID testing in the laboratory when it was ready to be implemented.
Ryan had a great sense of humor and made you feel that you are a part of the team. He was great at giving advice and always there when you needed him. I will miss his council on leadership advice, stock tips, medical technologist tips, and his friendship. I will miss you, bro. Even if you’re not here the memories still remain.

I’ve known Ryan for only the past 3-4 years. In that time, I’m proud to say that his infectious personality left a mark in my life. From the golf course, to playing sports games online together, each activity was heightened with his presence. My condolences to his family, and may he rest in peace.

Ryan was my director for a short time.  He was very kind-hearted to me.  I found this picture of our lab group delivering an overwhelming donation to a food pantry.  He was very sweet and funny.  He was very passionate about the Spartans. Go green go white Ryan. We will miss you.

I got to know Ryan after starting at Roche and he was nothing short of welcoming.  Always willing to help out the team whether they were seasoned veterans or newbies joining the team.  His one liner jokes and phrases to lighten a mood within our team chats was something we could rely on.  Always sharing his crazy stories and love for his family (plus Koda and Milo of course).  I'll never forget the friendship he offered in the short time I knew him.  Ry, you're truly missed <3

I can remember one time before our afternoon huddle Ryan waddling into the lab with arms at his sides and fingers pointed out. He was demonstrating the “Penguin” walk. Just the other day we got news he passed I saw that very sign on the exit doors.

Oh Riggs…. Where do I even begin?  Our friendship began back in 2010 when Michael and I met you and Zane at Michigan State through Trevor. The bond that me, you, Trevor, Kayla, Zane and Sarah, Kyler and Shannon had is unbreakable. From countless MSU games, the Rose Bowl, Tigers games, big 10 championships, you were the centerpiece of our MSU Tailgate Crew. My parents and Jack and Maggie looked at you like one of their own kids! Moving out of our college days, you were there for our group. You supported every bachelor/ette party, wedding, and birth. You came to Windsor, Mackinac Island, Traverse City etc to support us. No distance was too far. I remember when we lost you in Windsor…to you wearing your Make America Great again hat all weekend in TC. There’s not a memory I have with you that doesn’t involve a wild Riggs story. We bantered all the time. We gave each other crap and I loved it! You called me your “main chick” and your “bae” and it was always an honor. You always told us you’d be rich and successful and you were BOTH of those things. You came to my home when I had my first son in 2015. You held him and brought him a gift. That boy is now 10 and just this time last year you were letting all 14 of our Jr. Spartans tackle you in flag football with a smile on your face. My love of MSU has a small piece missing. Whenever I watch our Spartans, know that I will always think of you. I know you’ll be cheering them on from Heaven. And no— Tom Izzo isn’t getting fired this year :).

Ryan began working as our manager at Oakland Hospital in June of 2020. He was given the task of leading two hospitals which was a big undertaking but Ryan didn’t let it faze him. He was a great leader, took the time to listen to all of us and help out wherever he could, he was always prepared to do what needed to get done in the best way possible. He truly cared for everyone, had a huge heart and his smile and laughter was the best! He was passionate about his golf, the Spartans and his food! He made me laugh everyday and I will never forget that. So sad to see you gone so soon, may God bless you and comfort you and may your golf game be the best ever…

Ryan started with us right before covid.  I remember our fears as  phlebotomists, having to go into covid rooms to draw blood without the proper PPEs. Ryan fought to get us the protection we needed and  strongly encouraged nursing to draw their own patients since they were already in the rooms.  It was a very scary time and he handled it with confidence and courage.

Our hearts are broken for you. We are so very sorry for this devastating loss.

I first met Ryan at Macomb and he was such a great guy!! It is so sad learn of his passing, I will be praying for his family and friends as he will be greatly missed Gone WAY to soon

Ryan and I first worked together as managers —him at Macomb and me over Blood Bank— before we both transitioned into Director roles. Ryan was quick-witted and funny, and we often spent entire days in banter that consisted of making fun of each other but never in a demeaning way. He worked hard, played hard, and every now and then was serious enough to offer some pretty solid advice. He loved golf, MSU, his friends, and food.  

Rest easy, Ryan. You will be missed.

I owe Ryan an immense debt of gratitude for all the support and guidance he has given me throughout my career. He championed my professional development at both Ascension and at Roche Diagnostics, encouraging me and my abilities even if I was skeptical. He always listened to my ideas and was patient with me even if I was being difficult. We collaborated together on many projects, and I’m proud of the work we accomplished together. I may not be where I am today without Ryan, and I will not forget that. 
His greatest skill was his natural charisma and used it to connect with his teams, making them feel supported and heard. He truly wanted to accommodate everyone. He led our laboratory during an unprecedented healthcare crisis and kept operations running when high tensions and stress were constant. No easy task, but he got it done and fought for the lab and its team every day. 
I will always remember his love of fast food (particularly Arby’s and Popeyes), donuts, and ordering his Thai food “xtra hottt”. Even after departing our lab, he still made an effort to visit, bring us paczki or cannoli, and wish us a Happy Lab Week. 
I hope Ryan is at peace, wearing his favorite donut flip flops, 
cheering on his MSU Spartans, and enjoying nonstop games of golf. We often say the lab world is a small place, and it certainly feels emptier without him in it. I will miss him very much.

I started at Macomb in July of 2021 knowing absolutely no one and feeling a bit out of my element. Ryan was in the office next to ours. He immediately greeted me with a huge smile and made me feel welcome. He was always quick to jump in and help with anything he could. I will always remember his smile, his love of MSU and his infectious personality. I’ll miss our sports talks the most. Sending prayers to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Ryan.

It was always exciting when Ryan bounced into our workroom, a big ball of energy.  Full of smiles and laughs.  He wasn’t just good for fun, though.  He would always help us out whenever we needed it, always doing whatever he could to lend us a hand.  And he always bought so many Girl Scout cookies from my daughter to share with his lab associates!  He is truly missed.  May he be at peace and may God be with his family and friends and provide comfort to all. 💚

Ryan’s smile would light up the room. We were rivals, he loved Michigan State and I loved Michigan. I am praying for his family & his dog.

Ryan’s smile and laugh were infectious.  He would come into our office every morning to tell us Good Morning even though it was out of his way.  He would break up the daily grind talk with discussions of stock trends, weekend plans, and pictures of his Golden Retriever.

I saw him as a quick problem solver. You need to be mindful of what you are doing cause Ryan is straightforward and Strict.

Ryan started as a leader with us right before COVID19 hit. He was one of the few leaders that I can say was truly “in the trenches” with his team fighting to get them the PPE/Staff/Supplies they needed to safely do their job(s). I think he was the one that coined the phrase “Macomb is going rogue again” all in the best interests of his team to ensure they had what they needed. Even if that meant “bending” the rules from time to time 🙂. I will remember him as someone who could always make people laugh and always had a quick-witted response to throw into any conversation. Wishing him nothing but peace and endless golf in his final chapter.

I absolutely loved every minute I got to spend with Ryan.  He and I would laugh as we shared lab stories, as we would drive from account to account.  Most recently he helped me with a lab design that people all over the world come to see and enjoy.  He was critical for that process and I'm grateful for Ryan being who he is.  Ryan, you will be missed.  To his family, I'm so sorry and I hope you find comfort from the good times you had with each other.

I enjoyed having Ryan in class at WHS-as he always made it lively. He also was in a video game group with my two sons, so I got to know him a bit outside of class. After graduating we kept in touch via Facebook and he was a proud Spartan. I also remember he said he would get so rich and famous one day they would make a car-similar to a Cadillac Escalade-- but it would be called a Riggscalade.  My caring thoughts go out to his younger sister, Miranda, and their parents. RIP my man, Ryan.

Oh, this is so sad and unexpected.  I worked with Ryan at Troy Beaumont.  He was such a great fun guy.  He made me look forward to coming to work.   We had not spoken in a while, but through the Beaumont grapevine, I always knew what he was up to.  He always wanted to be a leader.  I will miss his jokes and knowing he will not be joining any of our Beaumont get-togethers.
