Williamston
Age 59, passed away on April 3, 2011, after a short battle with gastric cancer. Sally was born on August 5, 1951 in New York City, NY.
Sally, a Williamston Michigan artist, grew up exploring the woods and ravines of Cincinnati, OH. She completed he BFA at the University of Colorado and her MA at the University of Toledo. For the next 25 years she divided her time between raising two children, teaching and running a small business, which helped small businesses think creatively with their strategic planning and development. She worked at Lansing Community College for many years.
Since 2000, Sally was engaged in full time painting. Her mixed media pieces use abstracted figures and forms found in nature to explore the emotions around her. Inspirations for her work came from her observations of interpersonal relationships as well as from the towering trees and open fields surrounding her studio.
Sally is survived by her husband of 36 years, Greg Stewart, her children, Rachel Stewart and Daniel Martin Stewart, her parents, Dr. Lester and Joan (Belanger) Martin, her sisters, Betsy (Mark) Smith, Susan (Al) Weinert, Janet (Stuart) Bertolino and her brother, David (Cynthia) Martin. She will be missed and loved by her many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Okemos Community Church, 4734 Okemos Rd, Okemos, with the Rev. Jeanne M Randels officiating.
