With heavy hearts, we announce that our beloved mother, Shirley Ann (McPhilimy) Ennis, born to Harry and Rose McPhilimy on 7/7/1935 in Flint, MI has passed away peacefully at 90.5 years old in Haslett, MI with family at her side on February 2, 2026.
Shirley returned to the Lord and reunited with Patrick, her beloved husband of 62 years. Shirley met Patrick who was from Co. Westmeath, Ireland and fell in love in Flint. They married on April 18, 1959, and had 6 children. They were blessed with 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who continue their beautiful loving legacy. We are beyond grateful to have had such an extraordinary woman in our lives whose kindness, bravery and hard work were matched only by the love and warmth she shared with everyone she met.
Shirley was an avid sports fan and played in softball and bowling leagues as well supporting all Detroit and local sports teams. She graduated from Sacred Heart HS in 1953. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, and shuffle boarding. Remarkably, she found time to attend all her children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular events and graduations as well as friends. As tremendous friends and neighbors, Shirley and Pat could always be counted on to lend a helping hand unfailingly.
A devout Catholic, she fulfilled her dream of visiting the Knock, Ireland pilgrimage site of the blessed Mother Mary. Shirley enjoyed birdwatching, cold brews, and her Luigi’s pizza. Her meat always had to be well done, had to have ham on everything, and loved cabbage rolls and eclairs. She listened to Elvis, Bobby Vinton, Patsy Cline, and watched “The Golden Girls”. She decorated for every known holiday and never missed sending a card for everyone’s birthday, anniversary, and yes, even St. Patrick’s Day. She will always be cherished and loved.
She is survived by their 6 children Patrick (Julie) Ennis, Rosemarie (Clifford) Harman, Marilyn Ennis, Teresa (David) Decker, Sharlene (David) Drury and Michael (Margaret) Ennis. Their 22 grandchildren, Trina (Molly) Ennis, Kari Ennis, Katie (Emily) Ennis, Natasha (Brandon) Kearney, Jade (Jacob) Garred, Shannon Harman, Sean (Talia DiVicino) O’Sullivan, Devon (Pio Bragado) O’Sullivan, Trevor O’Sullivan, Sydney (Tony) Flores, Andrea (Dakota) Kujat, Shannon (Brady) Decker-Heit, Patrick (Marija Andrevska) Decker, McKenna Decker, Nichole (Keith) Perior, David (Kaitlyn) Drury, Ryan (Tannis) Drury, Erin (Tyler) McPherson, Kyle Drury, Aislinn Ennis, Donovan Ennis, and Sinead Ennis. 15 great grandchildren Maxim Ennis, Layne Kearney, Lily and Easton Garred, Maverick and Delilah Kujat, Peyton Heit, Mia Andrevska, Kadence and Kallen Perior, Carter Drury, Jensen Drury, Benson Pavesi, Marley and Ryder O’Sullivan.
