Stephanie was born July 6, 1959 in Battle Creek, MI. She was the youngest daughter of Stavro and Sophie Dimitri (Nickoloff). Stephanie’s father died just three weeks after she was born, and her mother raised Stephanie and her sister, Patricia Dimitri, until her untimely death when Stephanie was 14 years old. After her mother’s death, Stephanie and Patricia went to live with their Aunt Helen and Uncle Tommy and their sons, Dougie and Mike. Stephanie graduated from Harry Hill High School in Lansing, MI in 1977.
Stephanie met her husband, John Taschner, in 1981. After an hour, he worked up the courage to ask her to dance, and she liked the cool stereo in his Laguna. They were married on October 12, 1985 in Lansing, MI. The Taschner Family welcomed Stephanie and Patty as their own, and they enjoyed many family dinners and holidays together.
Stephanie and John welcomed a son, Steven, in 1989. Their daughter, Emily, was born in 1991, and their family was complete. Stephanie was a devoted mother and took six years off at her job at Auto Owners Insurance to raise her kids. She returned to Auto Owners when they were both in school, and she worked there for another 28 years.
Stephanie lived a modest life. She didn’t want fancy cars or houses; expensive china was not her taste. She liked watching the Tigers whether they were winning or losing. She liked watching movies with her family and going out to dinner. Most of all, Stephanie loved her husband and her children. She devoted her life to them and worked tirelessly to make sure they had everything they needed. She went to all their events and was their biggest supporter. Stephanie didn’t need anything dramatic or grand to have a fulfilling life. Her life was made full with the love she had for her family.
After raising her kids, her most proud moments included watching each of her children get married and welcoming her granddaughter, Kade, and grandson, Calum, into her family.
Stephanie is preceded in death by her parents, Stavro and Sophie Dimitri; sister, Patricia Dimitri; and father and mother in-law, Conrad and Virginia Taschner. Stephanie is survived by her husband, John Taschner; son, Steven (Griffin) Taschner, daughter, Emily (Tyler) Kelsey; grandchildren, Kade and Calum Taschner, sister-in-law, Janice Taschner; brother-in-law, James (Debra) Taschner; and niece and nephew, Constance and Conrad Taschner.
