David Lawrence Hughes

David Lawrence Hughes, 74, died Thursday September 9, 2010 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 :00 PM at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev Robbie Parker and Rev Dean Harrell officiating; burial will follow at Robersonville Cemetery.

David was born in Richmond V A on February 2, 1936. He was the son of the late Gillie Hughes and Dora Stalls Hughes Ring. David was a member of the NC National Guard, Memorial Baptist Church, retired volunteer fireman and a mason. He had retired as a Magistrate where he had worked several years.

On May 26, 1957 he married Shelby Nelson Hughes who survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughters Wanda Hughes Taylor and husband John of Greenville, Beverly Hughes Lohom and husband Wilson of Hutto Texas, and Sabine Veckenstedt and husband Michael of Cary, grandchildren Rebecca and John Taylor, David, Emily, and Hunter Lohom and Mark and Tyler Veckenstedt.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 PM at Memorial Baptist Church and other times at the residence 404 State Street.
