Della G. James

Della, a native and life long resident of Martin County was born the daughter of the late Jimmettie and George C. Griffin Sr. on June 25, 1925. After graduating from Carolina Beauty School she started working at Emily's Beauty Shop. Nearly two years later she opened her own beauty Shop Dell-Mars Beauty Salon. Della ran the shop for 54 years before she retired. Her customers were always more like friends and/or family to her and the decision to retire was a very difficult one. As well known as she was for running the Beauty Shop she may be better known for her cooking, especially her "Della Brownies". There was never many gatherings in Williamston where you would not find her brownies. But you better get there early or they would be all gone. And some would even argue that her cakes were even better.

Della was a longtime active member of the Church of the Advent (Episcopal). She was a very active member always helping out in any way she could. She also enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and watching sports especially Atlanta Braves Baseball.

Survivors include her son Charles "Chuck" M. James Jr. and wife Jill Carney James and grandson John C. James of Cary. Her sister Vera Ruth Morris of Newport News, Va. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband C. Milton James. Her brothers S.D. Griffin, Garland Griffin, Harold Griffin, Leon Earl Griffin, George C. Griffin Jr. and sister Janie Sue Griffin.

The family of Della would like to send a special thank you to all the caregivers who took care of her the past two months. They all loved Della and that love was doubly returned.

Funeral service will be held on Friday June 27 at 2:00PM at the Church of the Advent in Williamston officiated by the Rev. Rob Spainhour. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday June 26th from 6:00PM - 7:30PM at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
