Patricia was born on March 25,1943, in Martin County, NC.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh B. Griffin; mother, Edna Williams Griffin; and
brothers Hugh Dana Griffin and Joe B. Griffin.
Patricia was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She attended East Carolina University.
Her talents included interior decorating. She lived in Columbia, SC, New Orleans, LA, and
Clinton, MS, before moving back to Williamston n 1997 . In each place she lived, she
redecorated and made each house a home. Her home welcomed countless children and friends as
she raised two children while her husband traveled extensively for work. She enjoyed cooking,
unafraid to test new recipes from wherever she lived. She loved to entertain and host
celebrations within her home and various other places. She enjoyed church functions and
community activities, and she was a former member of the Farm Life Ruritanettes and American
Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Kay E. Pittman, with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage
on December 19, 2014; son, Hugh Scott Pittman of Huntington, West Virginia; daughter, Dana
Pittman Birdwell (Jerry) of Maryville, Tennessee; sister, Becky G. Lilley (Elmo "Butch") of
Williamston, NC; sisters-in-law Mary Charles Griffin, Williamston, Linda P. Bunn, Jane Thomas
(Bruce), brother-in-law, Robert Pittman, all of Wayne County. Her pride and joy were her
grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca and Thomas Birdwell; and Sam and Emma Pittman.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 28, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Piney
Grove Baptist Church, 2925 Piney Grove Church Road, Williamston, NC. Funeral services will
follow at2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Reverend Andy Bunn and Reverend Larry
Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Tice Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to caregivers Cynthia Jones, Patricia
Castro, Barbara Biggs, and Lorraine Brown for the compassionate care they provided for Patricia
while she was at home. Also, the family extends appreciation to Dr. Dean Patton and his staff
for their care, kindness, comfort, and professionalism during Patricia's stay at Vidant Inpatient
Hospice.
