of Williamsville, New York, died on August 27, 2026, after a brief illness. Born in Niagara Falls, he graduated from Niagara Falls High School and Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After serving briefly in the U.S. Army, he built his career at Ford Veterinary Hospital, where his leadership, compassion and innovations helped make the practice a trusted and beloved source of pet care in the area.
He spent most of his life in Lewiston, where he and Dorothy, his beloved wife of 66 years, raised their three children. He loved his family and in turn, he was deeply loved by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of his happiest memories were taking his children on canoe trips to Algonquin Park. In his later years, he developed an interest in genealogy and created a detailed and lasting record of the family’s history.
Don was committed to social justice and active in many civic organizations, including the Rotary Club, United Way, and Boys Club. Don along with Dorothy were generous philanthropists who cared deeply about their community and wider world. They were faithful members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsville and previously, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls.
His wife Dorothy died in 2018. He is survived by his children, Lynn (Joseph) Ford Somma, Daniel (Carolyn) Ford, Timothy (Rebecca) Ford; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held September 12, 2026 at 10:30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 68 Eagle Street Williamsville.
