

born on November 24, 1928, passed away Tuesday, September 23 at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 96.
Ed was a kind, considerate, loyal and honorable man, well loved by all who knew him. He earned his undergraduate degree from Canisius College. Ed served as a Sergeant in the Korean War in the European Theater from 1951 to 1953, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Following his service, he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University. Ed began his Optometry career in Cincinnati, OH, where he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Kiehfuss. After their wedding, he moved back to Bualo with Carol, where they raised their family. They were married for 64 years, creating a beautiful life together lled with love and happiness. Ed embarked on a lifelong career as an optometrist, spanning an impressive 49 years. During his career, Dr. Demer owned his own optometry practice in Cheektowaga, NY. Known for his expertise and compassion, he served his community through his professional career, providing outstanding care to all of his patients.
As a father, Edmund Demer was the epitome of love, guidance, and unwavering support for his three children: Steven, James, and Sally. He was their steadfast rock parenting with a combination of gentleness and kindness. Ed had a lifelong love for the game of golf. From the early days of his youth as a caddy at the Country Club of Bualo, to becoming a member at Transit Valley Country Club (1971-91). He enjoyed countless rounds played alongside friends and loved ones; golf held a special place in Ed's heart. He even achieved the elusive hole-in-one, three times in his life. Dr. Edmund Demer will be remembered for his kindness, his genuine easy smile, open-hearted nature, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, profession, and country. His legacy of love, compassion, and integrity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ed was the only child of Edmund and Mildred Dembowski. He is survived by his wife Carol, his three children: Steven, James and Sally Van Horn. As well as his grandchildren: Samantha Kelly, Adam, Jenna, Sarah, Daniel, Grace Van Horn and Hannah Van Horn. Great grandchildren: Bridget Kelly and Conor Kelly. In honoring Ed's memory, let us cherish the moments shared, and the love that endures.
Visitation will be held at Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, located at 1671 Maple Rd, Williamsville, NY 14221, on October 1, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A prayer service will follow there from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. A Committal with Military Honors will take place at Western New York National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Rd, Corfu, NY 14036, on October 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
