Eleanor " Ellie" was born and raised in Buffalo, and remained in the area her entire life. She raised her children mainly as a single mother, and did it amazingly well. Ellie always made sure she and her children took vacations, no matter how small, so that they could experience different things. She found the perfect balance of working full time and giving her children the attention they needed. When she became a grandmother, she became known as " Gigi", not only to her grandchildren, but to many of the people who knew her.
After graduating from Amherst Central High School in 1954, Ellie completed 2 years at the University of Buffalo . She then began her work at Robin Hood Flour and Merchants Mutual Insurance, eventually taking a position with the Supreme Court Law Library.
She worked for 27 years for the library, and was a longstanding member of ALLUNY, which she served as treasurer of, until her retirement in 1998. During her working years she travelled the world , eventually visiting Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, as well as much of North America.
Ellie spent many years as a devoted member of Ascension Lutheran Church ( later known as Crossroads Lutheran Church) in Snyder. She began attending as a young teen and was still a member until the church closed in 2021. In her younger years she taught Sunday School. Throughout her many decades as a member of the church she was in the choir, an activity which she greatly enjoyed. She also served her church by holding the office of treasurer for many years. Between her work in the library and her attendance at the church, Ellie made many close friends.
Ellie loved to read her daily newspaper, never tossing it out until every page was read. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and television sitcoms, as well as baking. Ellie had a wonderful sense of humor, and was the go-to person if you needed a poem written about anything. She was a very giving person and always offered to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 4th 2021 at 11am at Amherst Lutheran Church 5125 Main St. Williamsville, NY where facial masks will be required for attendance.
