In the 50's and 60's we grew up in Riverside I lived on Ontario street across from Ken's home in Schaffer village. Attended School 60!and Riverside High School together. A flood memories when heard of his passing. Ken was caring and great friend 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Dear Gehring Family,
Our deepest and heartfelt sympathy on the loss of our dear friend and “second husband.”  The last 40 years of our friendship has brought memories that will last a lifetime. We will treasure the memories of our wine tasting trips in the Finger Lakes, the many dinners celebrated with friends and working together for 25 years, along with the numerous fishing trips to the Adirondacks, Lake Chautauqua, Quebec and the French River. As our fishing guide once told us “ every time I see you two you are always laughing.”  You will never be forgotten and will be in our hearts forever.  FISH ON!

Hello Gehring Family,

I just wanted to share my memory of Ken (or as I knew him, Mr. Gehring). When Elyse and I were in fifth grade, I was invited to tag along on a cabin trip to Allegheny State Park over Martin Luther King Day weekend. My parents were going on a trip of their own, all the way to the Adirondacks, and since this was before cell phones, Mr. Gehring was truly in charge of my well-being.

I remember we got to the cabin, unloaded our gear, and headed into town to grab some pizza. When we got back, we put on our snow suits and decided to take our sleds outside the cabin to ride down the hill—through about four feet of snow. It was getting pretty dark, but we were having a blast until one run down the hill when I managed to snap and break my leg.

I don’t know how long I was lying in the snow before an ambulance could reach me, but I do remember a nurse from a neighboring cabin coming over to assess me. I can only assume Mr. Gehring went frantically searching for help. I was taken to a hospital in Erie, PA, where I was told my leg was broken.

It took a while to get in touch with my parents to let them know what had happened. When they finally did get through, I knew—because about five doctors came in to hold me down while they set my leg. Mr. Gehring and Elyse never left my side. Once everything was finished at the hospital, Mr. Gehring drove me all the way home, at what I can only assume was an ungodly hour.

Weeks later, he and Elyse came to visit me at home while I recovered. My family was forever grateful that I was so well cared for. My memory of Ken is one of greatness, selflessness, and pure, natural kindness.

Thank you for being a rockstar in my moment of need. Your entire family is in our prayers.
