Mary Ann passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2026. Mary Ann was born in Brooklyn, New York to John and Mary (nee Gabryluk) Denny. At a young age, her family moved back to Amsterdam, New York where she was raised and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Art was her passion and, upon graduation and with an art scholarship, she pursued and completed a B.S. in Education Degree at Buffalo State Teachers’ College (later known as Buffalo State College). While at college, she met her devout husband, Joseph, of 58 years. They wed and eventually settled down in Amherst to raise their family.
While raising her family, she was an active volunteer for many of her children’s activities to include Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, PTA, CCD teacher, and others.
In her career, Mary Ann was a passionate art teacher. She taught at several local parochial schools. She was also selected and served on the Arts and Culture in Public Places Board for the Town of Amherst for many years.
A fixture at St. Pius the X parish in Getzville, she was a long-time member of the Altar & Rosary Society. With her husband Joseph, they were determined to help others. They volunteered at the Little Portions Friary for more than 30 years helping the homeless of Buffalo, NY. Mary Ann loved to travel with her husband, visit her family, attend concerts and plays with friends, and to tend her garden. More than anything she enjoyed time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Joseph (Barbara) Muhitch, Laura (Jon) Frase, John (Liz) Muhitch, James (Uyen) Muhitch, and Jason (Lisa) Muhitch; cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Brian, Kevin, Timothy, Joseph Jr. (Rebecca), Mark, Katharine, Peter, Seanna, Allison, and Brandon; great grandchild, Weston; sister-in-law Mary Skroback; dear cousin Alva Cellini; she is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. The family will be present on Thursday, January 8th from 4 – 7 PM at the PERNA DENGLER ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME 1671 Maple Road, Williamsville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 9th at 10 AM at St. Pius X Church, 1700 North French Rd., Getzville.
