

MURRAY - Mary Ellen (nee Spaulding) Age 82, suddenly, October 22, 2011, loving wife of 60 years to John "Jack" Murray; dear mother of Sue (Paul) Metzen, John (Riya) Murray, Daniel (Deborah) Murray, James Murray and Julie (Andrew) Melton and the late Kathleen Murray; loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister of Joan Urbanczyk and the late Jack Spaulding. Mary Ellen Murray, a retired childhood educator, died Saturday in Sisters Hospital. She was 82.
Born Mary Ellen Spaulding in Buffalo, she was a graduate of Holy Angels High School and Rochester Institute of Technology.
A homemaker for several years, Mrs. Murray also worked as a bridal consultant. She later became a childhood educator at Westminster Early Childhood Center on Delaware Avenue.
Mrs. Murray was active in the Camp Fire Girls of Buffalo and the bridge program at Cherry Hill Club. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Her participation in a variety of religious organizations included serving as past president of the parish council of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Buffalo.
In retirement, Mrs. Murray split her time between Naples, Fla., and the longtime family summer home at Long Beach, Ont.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband of 60 years, John “Jack”; two daughters, Sue Metzen and Julie Melton; three sons, John, Daniel and James; and a sister, Joan Urbanczyk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a. m. Thursday in St. Rose of Lima Church, 500 Parker Ave.
