Michael W. Noga of Amherst, NY, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 26, 2026. He was 50-years-old. Mike fought a brave and sudden battle with cancer. To those who knew him, he was a devoted, selfless family man who built a legacy for his wife and two sons. Mike will be remembered for his generous spirit, giving nature, and the enormous love he had for his friends and family.
Mike was raised the oldest of three siblings in Greece, NY, where he was passionate about sports, and spent his childhood playing baseball. He had many interests, drawing and sketching among them, which would lead to a passion for architecture. He graduated from Greece Arcadia High School in 1994.
He began his professional career at Alfred State College of Technology where he graduated with an associate’s degree in 1996. He then attended the University at Buffalo, graduating with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture in 1998, and a Master of Architecture in 2000. While at UB, Mike started his legacy of bettering his community. He worked with Habitat for Humanity and designed the concession stand for the Greece Little League program he played for as a child.
After graduating from UB, Mike began his career with the company that would ultimately become his own: Gordon W. Jones Associates Architects, PC. Over the years, he steadily built his career through hard work, dedication, and countless late nights. While raising his boys and coaching Little League, Mike continued studying and became a licensed architect in 2019, an accomplishment that reflected the determination and work ethic that defined so much of his life.
As his experience and leadership within the firm grew, Mike was named Vice President in 2021. On January 1, 2024, he reached another milestone when he became President and Owner of the company.
Mike earned the trust of his colleagues and clients through his ability to remain calm and steady even in the midst of the most difficult challenges. He brought that same steadiness to the complex public-school capital projects that became an important part of his career. As President, Mike carried the company forward with the values that had guided him throughout his professional life: honesty, commitment, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to the people and communities the firm served.
As meaningful as Mike’s professional accomplishments were, they paled in comparison to the impact he had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. A son, father, uncle, brother, architect, friend, boss, Sugarloafer, coach, Bills and Orioles fan, and proud member of the Western New York community, Mike leaves behind a legacy few can rival. It lives on in the people he loved, the friendships he built, the lives he influenced, and the memories he left with us all.
Mike taught us that nothing matters more than kindness. He was a big, gentle teddy bear who cared deeply for the people in his life. He was never driven by greed or selfishness, but by an innate desire to provide for his family, to build something lasting for his children, and to leave his community better than he found it. He put in long hours for decades and was fortunate to live long enough to taste the fruits of that labor. Mike’s generosity and kindness were never limited to special occasions or a select few; they were woven into the fabric of his life. He leaves behind a life well lived, a family deeply loved, and countless people who will carry a piece of his kindness with them.
Mike was predeceased by his grandparents, Stanley and Nellie Noga and Albert and Elizabeth Wride, who instilled many of the core values that shaped his life. Mike was also predeceased by his good friend Adam Jansen.
Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years, Jennifer (Waple) Noga; sons Brendan John (19) and Carson Michael (17); parents Eugene and Diane (Wride) Noga; siblings Paula (Bradley) Eastham and Adam (Rachel) Noga; and sisters-in-laws Katie (Michael) Andriatch and Kerry (Anne Minton) Waple. Mike leaves behind eight nieces and nephews and one grandniece, all of whom he loved as if they were his own.
The family will be present for Memorial Visitation and a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 18th, from Noon to 4 pm at the Admiral Room at the Marin, 237 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14203. Words of Remembrance will be offered to honor Mike at 1:30 pm. Burial will be private at Forest Lawn Cemetery on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Patricia Allen Fund at Golisano Children's Hospital of Buffalo.
