Noyel V. DeSouza MD

Noyel was born on September 15, 1944 in Tanzania, East Africa. He was the second oldest child in a family of five sons and one daughter. He loved each of his siblings and parents dearly.

In 1971, Noyel graduated from Saint John’s Medical School in Bangalore, India. It was in medical school where he met classmates that turned into his lifelong friends. Noyel’s love for children drew him to pediatric medicine, where he treated the children of India, Africa, and England before immigrating to America in 1977.

In 1981, Noyel married his lifelong companion, Aurea Sushila in Goa, India. Together, they raised their four daughters, Nisha, Priya, Amita, and Lalita in Buffalo and Kingston, New York. At one point, Noyel was allotted a male dog in a poor attempt to balance out the household.

It was Chinese cooking lessons in Boston that sparked Noyel’s lifelong passion of making meals for his loved ones. If you missed out on a spoonful of his legendary sorpotel, tandoori chicken, or cilantro chutney, then you are the ones that have our sympathies.

After 40 years of practicing radiology and nuclear medicine, he retired in 2014. Noyel spent his twilight years doting on his grandchildren, Avani, Felix, Zuari, and Dev, and keeping in touch with his dear friends and family. He never once complained of the many health challenges he faced.

Noyel will be remembered for his hearty laughs, big smiles, and endless hospitality toward everyone who crossed his path.

Dr. Noyel V. De Souza passed away on July 28, 2021. Family will be present Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2-4 PM for visitation followed by a Celebration of Dr. De Souza’s Life from 4-5 PM at the PERNA, DENGLER, ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME, 1671 Maple Rd. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from St. Gregory the Great Church on Monday, August 2 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. De Souza’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
