André Leib

André Leib, 95, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, surrounded by family at his home in Highland Park, Illinois. He was a devoted family man who cultivated many lifelong friendships. Extroverted, warm, generous, and caring, he was easy to love. André’s unique kindness, coupled with his humorous nature, touched everyone he encountered. As a mentor, caretaker, confidant, problem-solver, and father figure to many, André’s influence reached well beyond his own family.

Born on September 25, 1930, in the small town of Junglinster, Luxembourg, to Karl and Berta (née Ermann), André enjoyed a carefree childhood until the German invasion of Luxembourg. André, his parents, and two younger sisters survived a year of severe hardship under Nazi occupation until they became among the last Jews to emigrate from Luxembourg, in May 1941. After a difficult three-week journey that took them through Lisbon and New York City, they arrived in Chicago to start a new life.

In 1959, he married Carol (née Dezen). Together they built a life deeply rooted in family and friends. André enjoyed a successful 45-year career in the wholesale pharmaceutical business, starting as a stockboy and ultimately becoming the president of two Chicago companies. He was also a master of home repair projects (especially roofing) and an avid model railroading enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Josette and Colette. André is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his three children, David (Anne), Lisa (Joe), and Dan (Sandy); eight cherished grandchildren, Dana, Naomi (Drew), Noah, Marisa, Sophie, Samantha, Alison, Rebecca; and one great-grandchild, Talia.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Boulevard, Wilmette, Illinois. Internment immediately following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jewish United Fund of Chicago, the Luxembourg American Cultural Society in Belgium, Wisconsin, or a charity of your choice.
