Arlene Susan Appelman Alpert, 77, of Riverwoods, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025 with her family by her side. She was the treasured daughter of the late Fredric and Marilyn Appelman; cherished mother of Kenneth (Amy) Alpert; proud and loving grandmother of Evan and Emma Alpert; loving sister of Joel (Sherry) Appelman and the late Eric “Rick” Appelman; caring aunt of Douglas Appelman.
Arlene passed away after a long and arduous struggle with chronic debilitating health issues. Through it all, Arlene was one of the fiercest fighters, and despite her many years of health ailments she continued to persevere, beating all the odds by surviving over 20 years on kidney dialysis. Arlene fought a great fight and her spirit never gave up, but in the end her body could not fight anymore.
Arlene was a vital and strong woman who loved her family dearly, most importantly her son Ken and daughter-in-law Amy, and she was so intensely proud of her grandson Evan and granddaughter Emma. Arlene's honest and straightforward sense of humor was hilariously inappropriate and always entertaining. Arlene loved all things creative, along with dancing, shopping, swimming, traveling, great food, animals, including feeding the birds/squirrels/chipmunks, and especially loved dogs, horses, and cats. Arlene absolutely adored her precious white cat "Whisper."
Arlene will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers that she made a lasting and wonderful impact on. Arlene will remain forever in our hearts.
