Carol Archie, nee Krebs, 87, of Winnetka, loving mother to Andrew, Timothy and Christopher (Kit); cherished grandmother to Ellen, Samuel, Duff, Jack, Jamie and Ben Archie; daughter of the late Edgar and Lauretta Krebs of Watertown, Wisconsin; sister to Jeannine (Krebs) Mallach and Barbara (Krebs) Taylor; and beloved mother in law to Daisy, Jenny and Kim. Carol was a devoted aunt to Annie Kay, Jennie and Peter Taylor; and Jeff, Amy and Sarah Mallach and to many other extended family members. Her husband Robert Archie died earlier in 1976. Carol passed away peacefully at her home in Winnetka, Illinois on June 21, 2017.
Carol was warm, creative, curious, intelligent, active, caring, and strong throughout her long and happy life. She grew up in Watertown, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She worked joyfully and tirelessly as a kindergarten teacher in the Glencoe Public Schools from 1952 to 1957, raised her three wonderful boys, and returned to teaching from 1968 until her retirement in 1995. In retirement, she was an active choir member at St. Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church in Glencoe. Following national politics was a passion, and showcased her keen judgment and acumen. Carol loved to travel abroad, and as often as possible to visit her grandchildren in Maine, Virginia, and St. Louis, where she delighted in their every smile and accomplishment.
Memorial service Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church 556 Vernon Ave., Glencoe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and progressive neurological illness, which severely impacted Carol’s mother and her son, Tim, both of whom she supported wonderfully, as a daughter, and then a mother.
