Carol Cohen

Carol J. Cohen (nee Natenberg), beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Saul "Solo" Cohen and companion to the late Len Mactus. Loving mother to the late Alan (Karen) Gitles, David Gitles, Jay (Paula) Gitles and Sharon (Dan) Uslan. Adoring grandmother of Rachel (Aaron) Barg, Ben Gitles, Elaine Gitles, Jami (Brian) Hoorwitz and Marli (Adam) Nadler and great grandmother to Cameron, Ethan and Sunny. Proud daughter of the late Arnold and Stella Natenberg. Fond sister of the late Muriel (the late Fred) Lederer, Phyllis (the late Ben) Levin. Carol leaves behind a great legacy as a loving spouse, wonderful parent and dear friend to many. Carol was born and raised in Chicago before moving to Glencoe while in the third grade. Graduate of New Trier High School. She started at Brown University (Pembroke) studying Art History and Interior Design but upon her father's’ sudden death after her freshman year, she transferred to be closer to her family and received her degree in Education from Northwestern University. She raised her family in Rogers Park before moving to Highland Park in 1960 and snowbirded in Scottsdale (The Boulders) starting in the late 1980’s. She had a robust career as a top producing North Shore residential real estate broker. She was smart, a world traveler, philanthropist, art collector, museum docent, Democratic Party supporter, athletic (golf, tennis and fishing enthusiast), fitness oriented, had a stylish fashion sense and meticulously coiffed. Spent numerous summer days retreating to “Camp Cohen” in Whitewater, WI. Our family offers special thanks to caregiver extraordinaire, Mandy Amedo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory can be made to The JUF of Chicago, the Heard Museum (Phoenix) and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.
