Beloved by family and friends alike, David Barry Gail passed away on January 14, 2022. David was born on June 29, 1939 in Chicago to Leonard and Elsie Gail. He is survived by the first and only love of his life and wife of 59 years, Carol (Romberg), and their three children, Leonard (Robin Steans), Jeffrey (Leslie), and Jodie. He will be remembered as a dedicated father and grandfather -- to Jessica, Leah, Sydney, Kendall and Jay. He is survived by his sister, Judee Jans, sister-in-law, Holly Gail, and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his brother Sanford by almost exactly a year to the day. David met Carol in 1956 in the office of South Shore High School. From the moment he set eyes on her, he knew they were meant to be together. They married in 1962 when David was on Army leave, and they spent their life and raised their family in and around Chicago. David was a fixture at his children’s and grandchildren’s competitions and plays, and took seriously his position as a Hall of Fame White Sox fan. Indeed, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch six weeks after rotator cuff surgery to Mark Buehrle for his 70th birthday was a lifetime highlight. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues, www.urbandebate.org (in memory of his years watching debate rounds) or to the National Kidney Foundation, https://www.kidney.org/ (in memory of his two year fight with kidney failure).
