The Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) sends condolences for Mr. Schiller's passing. A longtime contributing author and speaker for the Institute, Mr. Schiller also served on our Board of Directors. He will be missed and remembered with gratitude for all of the time and talent he contributed to IICLE over the years.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Eileen, and of course Eric and Jon. My memory is when Donald first dated my sister Eileen. I would wait for her to come home and sit on the warm radiator near the window. I looked out the window onto the street and I saw   Donald parked the car. I was surprised that the car remained parked for a long time. Eventually, Eileen would come inside. This happened often and I figured out why the car remained parked for such a long time.

Then much later in life, there were the fun times when the four siblings would get together and me, Steven, Nancy, and Eileen had so much fun. Eileen and Donald would host us at their house and Donald would as the true gentleman put up with the Fagin clan.

I  suggested to Don that he run to be the junior member of the Board of Governors of the Illinois State Bar Association. He did and won. I fondly remember his first meeting of the Board. He walked in the room and looked around. I motioned to him to sit in the empty seat I had saved for him next to me. That was the beginning  of many years of meetings and trips throughout Illinois while I was an “older” member of the Board, and broadened our and our wives deep and lasting friendships.  Don eventually  won a well deserved election as President of the ISBA, one of numerous honors and awards received during his career.  His friendship was treasured and will truly be missed. Hon. Don Schiller was a great lawyer and a great person.  I was fortunate to have had many opportunities to spend time with Don and his family.  He was always a lot of fun and he made delicious oatmeal.  I treasure my wonderful memories of Don.

Sorry to hear of his passing.

He was a rare intellect and a good man.

Dear Old Friend Donald,
You will be missed  forever - by many, but especually me.
We have helped each other for the last 72 years.
Unfortunately I just got back down to Florida, and traveling is very difficult for me now, so I will not be there to say goodbye.
Pam & I send the most sincere condolences to Eileen, who has been your love & caretaker for about 60 years, as well as Stephen and the boys.
You leave behind many who loved you as well as a thriving law firm after a fabulous career.

Eileen and Family,

I was so saddened to learn of Don's passing.  It is hard to process that is has been 30 years since we met and started working together as members of the ABA Board of Governors.  His kindness and professionalism always shone through his work with the Bar, and I suspect with his practice as well.  He was a good man, and a delight to be be around, and we are all the poorer for his passing.  May his memory be a blessing.
