It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Mintz Libman, 83, of Highland Park, IL. Doris was the loving wife for 62 years of Norm Libman, kind and loving mother of Jeffrey Libman, Robert (Karen) Libman and Susan (Andrew) Kramer, super-special Nonnie of Henry, Gracie and Emily Libman, Jackson and Kate Kramer, and Ceci, Luci and Julian Hansen. Caring sister of Sandy (Ruth) Mintz, and sister-in-law of Michael Libman. She passed away very peacefully at home on Thursday, January 14, 2021 surrounded by her family and the love, compassion and care she showered on them during her life.
Doris grew up in the South Shore and Hyde Park neighborhoods of Chicago, attending elementary and high school at the Harvard School and Faulkner School for Girls. At the age of 16, she enrolled in the University of Michigan, where she earned a B.A. in Education and membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. It was at Faulkner and in Ann Arbor that Doris established many of her life-long friendships.
Doris taught 5th and 6th grade at the Latin School in Chicago before moving to Highland Park with Norm to raise their family. She became a reading specialist at Wayne Thomas elementary school before earning two master's degrees at National Louis University and becoming a school psychologist at Schaumburg High School.
An avid reader, walker, bridge player, self-taught athlete, and life-long student, Doris took her greatest pleasures in celebrating the joys of sharing life with her cherished family and friends. Her love, kindness and generosity live on in all those she touched.
