Recently, Betty White was the eldest voter voting in the precinct where she had lived for 65 years. June last, Betty White was welcomed with enthusiasm at the library where for thirty years she was co-chairman of genealogy volunteers. In 1930, she was graduated from New Trier High School, the youngest in that class and now likely it’s last surviving member. In 1932, graduate of Monticello College of which she became a member of their Board of Directors and was active among their Chicago Alumni.
Consulting genealogist (certified in 1971), lecturer, published author in journals about Illinois and New England family history and books of documented genealogy. Chairman of the Howland Five Generations Project, John Howland the Mayflower passenger whose family became largest form those who landed at Plymouth in 1620. Author of four volumes published by the Picton Press. Life member of the Illinois Society of the Mayflower, Descendents (William Brewster and Stephen Hopkins) and honorary member of the John Howland Society.
Fellow of the American Genealogical Society (selected in 1976 as their 86th member) of which there are only fifty members at any one time. This society was created in 1940 to foster the teaching of genealogy, eliminate improper and unethical practices and to promote THE profession of genealogy.
Fellow of the National Genealogical Society granted by their board of governors (1986) for contributions to genealogy in many different ways.
Literary Award of Merit by the Connecticut Society of Genealogists (1992) prize for John Howland of the Mayflower – Volume 1.
Awarded the first annual Lowell Volkel Medal of Honor by the Illinois State Genealogical Society , 1996. The late Dr. Volkel was for many years head archivist for the State of Illinois and the founding president of the Illinois State Genealogical Society at Springfield.
Honored (2010) by the GENERAL Society of Mayflower DescendAnts OF PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS at their recent annual dinner.
Predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Betty White is survived by son Ronald and daughter Joan (Donald) Jacobsak, grandchildren Michael (Mary Margaret) Jacobsak, Karen Tierney and Melinda (Michael) Sippel, six great grandchildren and her brother, Whitney (the late Alberta) Pearson.
