Etta Mae McElroy

Etta Mae McElroy, 95, of Evanston, was born in Addington, Ok March 7, 1922. Her family moved to Tulsa, Ok and she graduated from high school in Tulsa. She attended Tulsa University for two years and graduated from National College of Education with a Bachelors Degree in elementary education. She received a Masters Degree from Carnegie Technical Institute Pittsburgh, Pa in library science. She worked as the school librarian in Haven, Washington and Kingsley Schools in Evanston. She was preceded in death by her parents Kent and Flora Mae McElroy, brother Jack and dear friend Ann W. Miller. Survivors include friends Robert and Sandra Brigham. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Midwest Antique Club. She volunteered at Evanston Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to Orphans of the Storm or to a charity of one's choice. In accordance with with Etta Mae's wishes, private services were held. Interment Northminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. Arrangements by Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home. For information 847-251-8200.

Etta Mae was an inspiration to so many students, teachers and others here in Evanston. She taught with with my husband at Washington and later I got to know her better when she joined the University Guild at Northwestern. An active member of the guild and she will be remembered for all her smile most of all.
