Evelyn "Chava" Goldenberg, Beloved daughter of the late Meyer "Meir" and the late Jane "Gisa" Solid; Devoted wife of the late Dr. Lewis "Lenny" Goldenberg; Sister of the late Herman Solid and the late Holly Solid - Barton; Mother of Mark and Scott Goldenberg; Adopted American Mother of Nikki Jeleva; Mother-in-law to Margaret Cogbill Goldenberg and Jennifer Condos Goldenberg; Grandmother to Benny and Gabriella Goldenberg; Aunt to Ava Solid Sand, Jason Solid and Justin Solid; Sister-in-law to Adrienne Solid. Evelyn's passion was always music. She won the Chicago Symphony Youth Competition playing piano at the age of 18. It must run strong in the family - her sister Holly won the same competition playing viola at the age of 16. Also, Evelyn’s son Mark is a fantastic professional guitar player. Evelyn was a devoted wife – her husband proposed, and within a few months they had moved to Holland, where Lewis "Lenny" was attending medical school. She continued her studies of Piano at the conservatory in Amsterdam. She also became fluent in Dutch. Mark was born in Holland in Lewis's second year of medical school. Evelyn was also a devoted friend – she kept close touch with friends she made in Holland, and many would come visit in Chicago. She also made many life-long friends here in Chicago. Evelyn was not very religious, but she had strong feelings for the Jewish people, their story, and the traditions. She strongly identified herself as a Jew and had strong feelings for the state of Israel. She was also well educated and loved to read a variety of subjects. Evelyn lived 88 years, a long time. She had many challenges to deal with, but she always dealt with them with grace, a smile, and love. I know that there are many family and friends waiting to greet her. May her next adventure be one of joy and love.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 2:15 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie IL. For more information: Call Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home - 847-256-5700.
