I am deeply saddened to see this and wanted to share my experience meeting him. He and my daughter met during Spring Break and before the world shut down. They became friends and he spent the day with us, driving to the west coast of Fl (from the east) and moving all of her things into storage and back home. He was kind, helpful, funny and fit in with our family so well! He also spent time at our home hanging out and I really adored him. I was sad to learn of his struggles over time (when he shared with my daughter) and wished him nothing but good things. This sad news makes us sad and I felt blessed to have his presence with our family to do what would have been horrible but he made it much more fun and engaging! May he be at peace and may all who loved him hold the good memories like a blanket of comfort at such a difficult time.

Gavin was one of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve ever known. My first year at camp was back in 2011, and I still remember how he made me feel so welcome right from the start. He had this energy that made everyone feel included and part of something special. Whether it was joking around, late-night talks, or just hanging out with Abe, he always made those moments unforgettable.

I have so many great memories with him — the kind you look back on and can’t help but smile. He had such a good heart and cared deeply about the people around him. The last time we talked was back in January, and I never would’ve thought it would be our final conversation. I really wish we had seen each other more outside of camp, but I’ll always be grateful for the friendship we had and all the memories we made over the years.

Rest easy, Gavin. I miss you, brother.

Didn’t have enough characters on the last message so adding a couple more here. You were one of the nicest, most kind, caring, funny people I have ever met in my life. If only there were more of you out there (the world would be a much better place). I love and miss you, and will be thinking about you constantly. You will leave an ever lasting memory with more people than you could imagine. Any time I get a little sad from now on, I will think back to our time at Earls - truly just the best. Gav - went back looking through old photos and you just never have as much as one wants. See the above from one of our first days at Uncle Earls… to this day my favorite house and group of people I lived with down in Oxford. We went down to Sophomore year thrilled to be living in the house… only for that to be swiftly shut down after some fire code violations no more than 1 day into the year (I am not even sure we slept there more than one night on some blankets). From there, we were relegated to the dorms… a disaster - this was supposed to be our best year down at school, in the house living with the whole crew! We made best of our crew in the Emerson dorms… if I remember correctly it was you, me, Dubs and Lucas. Despite it not being more than a couple weeks / month it was the best… a quad with three of my best friends. That was some short lived lodging, part of the theme those first couple months it felt like. We then took our talents to Sycamore street - you, me Bresch and Dubs… what could be better. We were no longer constrained by the dorms, had our own house for the first time, and had the Playa guys and the chop guys moving into our neck of the woods. What happened the rest of that year was the best time of my 4 years down there. 4 best friends, shared interests, the entire PC and not a worry in the world. Mario Kart at all hours of the day, trips to Johnnie’s and scoreboard, dubs falling asleep anywhere and everywhere, and enough laughs for an entire lifetime. Dubs and Bresch I had gotten to know very well from Freshman year but I had only known you for a couple of months. The super outgoing, social, loving, loud kid from Chicago. Over that year, we became great friends - with each other at 24 hours of the day, fall break up to UM, and countless nights we / I will never forget. You were a great friend, a great young man, and one of the more loved people I have ever met… I am still not convicnded you didn’t know every single person on campus.

We are so sorry for your loss. We have so many wonderful memories of Gavin. His  smile and infectious personality will stay with us always.

I think this was one of the first times Sami and I hung out, we were maybe 14? I don’t remember all the details, but I remember us just being silly… and you, Gavin, right there wanting to be part of it all like always. This is how I’ll always picture you, the cutest, sweetest little brother I never had. You had that smile that made everyone around you light up, and your laugh… I can still hear it. You were and are so special.

This night was so memorable!! Me and Sam were just being our usual 16 year old selves, and of course, you wanted in on the fun — like you always did. You were the little brother I never had, always trying to hang with the older kids, and somehow managing to get us smiling and laughing instead of telling you to go away. :) You had the most infectious smile, ther kind of laugh that stuck with you, and this way of making everyone around you feel lighter, happier. I’ll always hold on to how much joy you brought into our lives. I will miss you so much, Gav

Gavin and I had a special friendship. He taught me how to make friends, how to let everybody in on the joke, and how to make people smile and feel included. My forever best friend and prom picture partner!

Gavin and I were assigned a project together when we were little… The chances we paid attention are slim, we were probably laughing way too hard with one another

We were lucky enough to live next to Siegel family for a few years in Chicago. We visited two years ago while Gavin happened to be in town and he and Michelle met us after dinner. Gavin was so good with my kids when they were young and he was even better with them when we saw him a few years ago. My son loved Gavin. Even though he’s much older than my son he always treated him like a little brother.  Whether it was sneaking cereal out of Siegel’s kitchen or just playing video games with my son…he was wonderful to him. We are so going to miss him.

Whether it was walking to school together and fighting over which path to take or late night McDonald’s runs in the summer, I can’t think of a single time my memories with Gav weren’t filled with laughter. Gav taught me that being silly is ok, even when everyone is watching. I always imagined that one day, Emily, Lauren, Sarina, Gavin, and I would get together and reminisce about all the fun we had at Eugenie Terrace. When we get together we will raise a toast to the boy who always kept us smiling and trying new ways to beat him on our scooters. Love you forever G-Man

I have had the privilege of knowing Gavin for over twenty years. Our paths initially crossed at age six. By age sixteen, he was one my closest confidants. Our friendship demonstrated how seemingly opposites can forge loyalty, protection, humor, and grounding. I remember the comfort I felt when Gavin transferred into my advisory. To this day, I still have cards addressing me as “The Homie Queen.” We kept in touch over the years, reminding me that I always had a friend. Gavin, you are loved and missed.
