Geraldine Mines, aged 90, of Chicago, IL, Amelia Island, FL, and Peachtree City, GA. Loving mother of David Chalmers, Ruth Mines-Kaiser, and David Kaiser. Gerry was born in Chicago, IL to her loving parents, Morris and Libby Heiferman. Upon learning of the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Gerry, Ruth, and David moved to Georgia, where a multi-generational home was born. Even though her great-grandchildren were not her children, everyone would say they were. Gerry was integral in raising her beautiful grandchildren Marc and Erica, and even more vital in raising her great-grandchildren Oren Edward and Morris Ethan. Not only was she devoted to her own family, but she was also a committed, longtime nanny to the Sheftel/Getz Family; she loved them as if they were her own.
Gerry absolutely adored attending the Art Institute, Chicago Botanical Gardens, the color turquoise, swimming laps, giraffes, gardening, yoga, laughter, eating blueberry pancakes, corn on the cob, lamb chops with green mint jelly, and ice cream every night. Adoring grandmother of Marc (Dominika) Kaiser and Erica (Asa) Akins. Proud great-grandmother of Oren Edward and Morris Ethan. Geraldine was preceded in death by her dedicated husband Phil Mines, her late sister, Dorothy Eby, and late brother Hilbert Heiferman. Caring aunt to many nieces and nephews and an endless number of friends. She was well loved and will be missed even more.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Food Bank For NYC- a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and serving people in need across New York City. Gerry's grandson Marc proudly works there, supporting its mission.
Services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11am at Waldheim Cemetery, Gate 47, Des Plaines Ave, Forest Park, IL 60130.
