Gilbert Lande

Gilbert Lande, 94, of Vernon Hills passed on 3/26/2025. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Gertel) Lande; the loving stepfather of both Susan (Lee) Auvinen and the late Joselyn (Lee) Knitter; and the kind father of Sandy (Ken) Bartolotti and Loree (Lande) Nardini; the proud grandfather of Kevin Auvinen, the late Eric(Naomi) Auvinen, Benjamin Knitter, Joshua (Morgan) Knitter, Jaclyn Nardini and Layla Nardini: caring brother of Sherwin (Andrea) Lande.

Gil lived in Chicago/Skokie area part of his life and lived in the Buffalo Grove/Wheeling area until moving to a senior living building.

Mr. Lande proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In his civilian life he was a claims adjuster and his hobbies included coin and stamp collection, sharing his knowledge of sports records and statistics, sharing his knowledge of history and learning more history and he was active in the Jewish War Veterans. Gil was a best friend to Ruth for 44 years.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, March 28, 2025, 12:00 noon at Waldheim Cemetery, 1700 South Harlem Road, Forest Park, IL 60130. Please enter at Gate 200. There will be no shiva. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Jewish War Veterans (www.jwv.org) would be appreciated.
