I am saddened to hear about Professor Benishay's passing.   As a student at Kellogg,  he was one of the outstanding professors that I had (macroeconomics).  What a wonderful person he was and I felt that we connected (he even said that I looked familiar).  Rest in peace my friend. 

I was a student of Professor Benishay's in the late 1980s.  I reached out to him in May 2018. My condolences to Professor Benishay's family.  May this give you just a little bit of comfort.

I’ve enjoyed reading your email. I remember those years fondly and definitely enjoyed teaching the TMP. It’s good to hear that you still have a bride of 30 years now and that it was during my class that you talked about your upcoming marriage. It is a pleasure to hear that you viewed what I taught so meaningful in your life, and that after all these years you still remember and are kind enough to let me know. To the extent that you have negative events, don’t ever give up.

Dear Professor Benishay,

I am not sure you remember me as I am sure you had many wonderful connections with your students over the years but I took your economics class in TMP in the 1985-1986 timeframe. One of my most memorable moments is when I informed you I would miss a class due to my upcoming wedding and you announced the event to the entire class in mid-lecture after seeing me out of the corner of your eye.  It was more of a reflection.  That was a warm and fun moment that I will never forget. You also humorously (at least I thought it was funny) offered my sport coat which was hanging on the wall at the side of the room to another student who said he was cold.  I exclaimed that it was a 42L. Your engaging way of teaching punctuated by light moments made economics stimulating and exciting.  You are one of the best, if not the best, educators I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. The reason for this message now is that I attended the 2018 reunion this past weekend and saw a pop-up on my phone asking for votes on best teachers.  Obviously I thought of you. I hope you are doing well.  I would love to introduce you to my bride of 30 years and buy you a coffee some morning if you are interested.

We will miss Uncle Ben so very much, especially his Shabbat call every Friday.  When we heard his voice, it always started our Shabbat and weekend on a wonderful note.
