Helen J. Barnett

April 13, 1926 – August 20, 2026
Obituary of Helen J. Barnett
IN THE CARE OF

Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home

Helen Barnett, 100, died on August 20, 2026, in Wilmette, Illinois.

Born on April 13, 1926, in Chicago, Helen lived a full century marked by energy, skill, and a deep enthusiasm for the world around her. She was, in every sense, a force of nature. That spirit shaped both her personal life and her professional path, guiding a life centered on exploration, work she loved, and the people closest to her.

Helen pursued her passion for travel throughout her life and shared that passion with her husband, Les, as they traveled the world together. She also transformed that lifelong interest into a career, working as a travel agent for more than 40 years. Her dedication to that work remained strong well into later life, and she retired at the age of 90.

Beyond her career, Helen found joy on the water and at home. She and Les sailed Lake Michigan on their sailboat, and cooking was another of her notable gifts. Her love of travel, sailing, and cooking reflected a life lived with curiosity, confidence, and remarkable drive.

Helen was loved by her children, Chip Barnett and Paula Bockman, and by most anyone who interacted with her. She leaves behind the memory of a woman whose presence was unmistakable and whose life was defined by movement, purpose, and lasting connection with others.

Her century of life stands as a memorable testament to devotion to her interests, her work, and the many experiences she embraced. She will be remembered with deep affection by those who knew her.
