Helga Kauf, nee Liegner, 92, Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert Kauf; Cherished wife of Louis Berman; Dedicated mother of Jeanette (Alan) Kauf-Stern and Margaret (Lowell) Schneider; Proud grandmother of Aaron Schneider, Katie (Matthew) Tyler, Andrew (Heather) Schneider, Rebecca (Ben) Cady, Matthew (Layni) Schneider, Yael (Ed) Shmookler, Michal (Daniel) Waldman, and Adi (Avi) Moussa; Dear great-grandmother to 17 amazing children. Helga was a Holocaust survivor who came to this country with no knowledge of English and went on to achieve a Master’s degree at Brown University and worked toward a Doctorate from the University of Chicago where she met her beloved Robert. She devoted her life to education and was a professor at Chicago City Colleges. She was a woman way ahead of her time. She was an extremely loving, kind, and generous person who cherished her family. Funeral services will be held at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette IL on Tuesday, January 30th at 9:00 am. Interment to follow at Oakwoods Cemetery, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Robert Kauf Scholarship Memorial Fund at the University Of Illinois Chicago Foreign Language Department.
