Herbert E. Walker

September 4, 1934 – May 13, 2025
Obituary of Herbert E. Walker
IN THE CARE OF

Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home

Herbert E. Walker, of Glenview, born on September 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Harold Blake and Mary Alice Walker, passed away on May 13, 2025 following complications of declining health. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Mary Jane Nelson Walker; his children Kathryn Walker Theis (Roger), Karen Walker, Robert Walker, Scott Walker (Molly); his thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Howard Walker and Timothy Walker (Sandy).

Herb graduated from Evanston High School in 1952 and University of Colorado in 1956. After graduation, he began his 40 plus year career with American Hospital Supply and Baxter International where he was Vice President of Human Resources. He was passionate about creating a corporate culture of teamwork and maintaining a high standard of integrity in the workplace.

Herb would tell you that he was a “huge family man”. His grandchildren lovingly called him “Woody”. He loved spending time fishing and boating with Mary Jane and family at their home on Delavan Lake, Wisconsin. At their home on Sanibel Island, Florida, he enjoyed many hours on the beach with family and friends. Golfing and bridge at the Glen View Club were favorite pastimes.

Every conversation he had with his children and grandchildren always ended with, “What can I do for you?”.

He will be dearly missed.

Memorial service and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Herbert E. Walker to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
