Jack was always fun to work with when doing community theater in Wilmette.  I liked the skit he wrote titled "Jack" which would take place on closing night of the shows that were done.  He will be missed.

No matter how he was feeling, Jack greeted me with a smile and we would exchange “Martha”  and “ Grandpa” greetings in his famous stage voice. It was always a delight to see him. The gift of working with Jack at the North Shore Theater of Wilmette will stay with me forever. He was a treasure among men. He will be missed by so many. He spread love and joy throughout our community. He will be missed.

Although we never met Jack, we are so grateful to him for raising such a beautiful human in you, Jill. He sounds every bit as wonderful as we’d imagine he would be. ❤️ We are so sorry for your loss and we are wrapping you all in a big, virtual hug.

I first met Jack in 2012 when I started with the Village Follies in Winnetka. He always made me laugh with his skits & enjoyed watching him Moses or God. He would often tell me I looked like one of his granddaughters, which made me feel very special. Even when he wasn’t able to be in the show, he would come see it which was always so wonderful. I got to go to his 90th birthday party which was so much fun.  He will be sorely missed. 

I just know how much he was loved and what a beautiful legacy he left. He sounded like an amazing man. 

My entire family is deeply saddened.  Yet we take joy knowing that you were our friend and neighbor for 35 years.  We shared many happy times and supported each other during times of sadness.  We will miss you tremendously.  Know that theJohnson family will always love Jack.

Jack was a true friend, a gentleman, a kind soul and a true collaborator.  I’ll never forget our too brief time working together in 2013 in a spending production of “Anything Goes”.

Jack always had  a twinkle in his eye and a story or joke to tell.  An actor and a raconteur, he was a prime mover in the Follies and the creator of new material for each year's production. His thespian activities led to meeting Beverly, his wife of many years, whom he continued to call his "bride" throughout their life together. He was the consummate family man, whose love for, and pride in, his children and grandchildren defined his life. 

I did 1 show at Wilmette and then took 5 years off to have twins. When I came back, jack recognized me right away . Treated me like an old friend at auditions and instantly Made  me feel so welcome and comfortable.  When my husband asked me how the audition went , I said” o don’t remember theater people being so nice.”  5 years later when my 9 year old  daughter Joanna auditioned for Oliver. He gave her the same welcome!  Loved him!!! 

Jack played my papa in a show about 13 years ago, and he was Papa Jack forevermore. He joined us for the holidays,  and we loved having him at our table. He was a grandpa to my kids.  Papa Jack actually recognized my Mom out front after that first show; they grew up in the same building and he knew her immediately after only about 70 years.  I will miss him terribly, at auditions, rehearsals, performances, backstage, (opening night poems!) and every holiday.  His memory is for a blessing to us all.

The entire theater community on the North Shore will miss Jack.  He was so beloved by so many people.  Theater will not be the same without him.

I have so many fond memories of spending time with your Papa. Always so kind and warm. One in particular - going to theater. Your dad was so excited. Told me the whole backstory before the show even got started. He was so enthusiastic! I don't even recall what show we saw, but his excitement I won't ever forget. 

I only had the privilege to know Jack for four years. He was a gentle soul and an incredibly loving and adoring father and grandfather. Boy did he love to showcase his truly amazing talents in writing and acting -- and everyone thoroughly enjoyed and respected the chance to experience them. I remember his humor and wit which he would deliver with eloquence, confidence and biting speed. One such instance occurred a couple of months ago when Jill and I were speaking to him over the phone. He asked me how it was going but much, much more importantly, he asserted that I better be taking good care of his daughter. I said that I was but at times she drove me crazy. Without missing a beat, he calmly replied, "Well, that isn't a long road!" He will be missed deeply by so many.
