You don't know me, but I would like to send condolences to your family. I was searching for my father's obituary, whose name was also James Mitchell. I clicked on this link and immediately knew I had the wrong one, but my eye spotted the word "pancreatic" so I read it. My father also died of pancreatic cancer in August of 2014. Sending wishes for peace and comfort to your family.

May God surround and comfort the Mitchell family and friends during this time of sorrow. Psalm 71:21

I met Jimmy soon after the Mitchells moved to Nagle Ave in 1968 and joined little league baseball at Amundsen Park. Jimmy and I were the same age and I also came from a family of 10 kids. We lived on Mason Ave on other side of the park. It wasn't long before Jimmy and I figured out that since each of us had 3 brothers almost the same ages (all of us were 5 to 10 years old in 1969) we could organize some pretty good 4 v 4 pick up games. The 8 of us - Jimmy, Michael, Timmy and John Mitchell and Danny, David, Patrick and Marty Jordan - spent 10 hours or more a day almost every day for 2 or 3 summers playing slow pitch, right-field-out, wooden bat baseball games on the diamond in the northwest corner of the main field area at Amundsen. We brought picnic lunches to save as much time as possible for the games. Jimmy was the best player in the group. He was later a great wrestler at St. Pat's, where we were Class of '77 together. He was always just a great guy to be around.

I saw Jimmy about 3 years ago with his son Dante and Jimmy introduced me as one of the “other” brothers from all those stories he always told Dante about playing baseball all day long with the Mitchell and Jordan brothers. It was funny to hear I wasn't the only one always repeating that story to my son. I live now in Oak Park, a mile from the old Mitchell home on Nagle, and I have used that same field at Amundsen Park for practices with my son's little league team. Great memories there.

Perhaps Jimmy and Marty have reunited on a new Mitchell/Jordan Field of Dreams somewhere.

Tom, My condolences to you and your family. When I saw Jim's picture in the paper I was drawn to read the obit. I go back many decades with the Mitchells and Father Jim Doherty. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Bill Cowhey

To Kristen, Dante and Luca, Words can't express the admiration we had for your dad. Deanna and I were fortunate to meet Jimmy at Dante's and Peter Nelson's hockey games. He was a special person who relished his family and always had a smile for all. During our trips from CT. we looked forward to receiving his friendly hugs. God has tucked him in his ice rink in heaven to be his #1 fan. We know he is praying for you. Love
