Happy birthday dearest Jenny!  I’m always thinking of you!  When you drove us in your Porsche through the Ravines at break neck speed, as we’d go antiquing in Galena, when we visited Mackinaw Island, the hours spent talking over coffee and sometimes chocolate croissants, you making us the best salads I’ve ever had, the cool sweet breeze of the lake through your perfect cottage along with the soft coos of your doves, us laughing about the one day we’d be old and sitting on a porch drinking wine…all memories of my best friend.  See you on the other side, girl!

I have thought of Jenny so many times over the years.  I came to know her when we both were shopkeepers in Hubbard Woods.  Jenny had me as a guest to her very special home (in Lake Bluff) several times.  We shared a love of design and reverence for a style from days gone by.  She was great company: witty and warm. I moved away from the North Shore in 2004, lost touch with Jenny.  I am not sure why I did an online search today, so saddened to learn that she has passed.   She was unique and wonderful...the world lost a lustrous soul! 

This summer I'm putting together a website in memory of Jenny.  Please keep checking on jenniferquaal.com which will be on line by Jenny's September birthday.  I've tried to work on it in the last year but always became too sad, missing our dear friend.

Jennifer and I were friends from Sheridan School in Lake Forest Illinois.  Jennifer and I met in Kindergarten class.  She was such a nice girl.  I was so excited when Jennifer asked me to attend her birthday party at their home on Westminster.  Low and behold who showed up at Jennifer's birthday party none other than Bob Bell aka Bozo the Clown.  I feel terrible that I had lost with Jennifer over the years but know that she is in a better place.  Rest in Peace lovely one.

Many years ago I met a lovely young woman who sold lace and other "girly stuff" and raised doves.  She was uber smart with a wicked sense of humor and a great laugh.  Years of friendship (and much separation) have left me mourning a really good and true friend who turned out to be a much more layered and complex being than one can hope for in a friend.
