Kurt Gutfreund was born in Vienna, Austria in 1938 and survived 2.5 years in Terezin, the Nazi concentration camp. After liberation, he returned to Vienna with the dream of making a big and exciting life in America. He achieved that dream. He died on July 7, 2025. Kurt was the son of Hildegard and Heinrich Gutfreund. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son David, daughter Leslie Cohn and her husband Michael, daughter Hedy, his grandchildren Danielle and Xander Cohn, and his caregiver Harvey Balios. A funeral service for Kurt will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, or charity of your choice for donations. Following the funeral service will be a shiva from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hotel Sofitel, 20 East Chestnut St, Chicago, IL 60611.
