Leonard Jay Schrager

Leonard Jay Schrager, born November 5, 1935, in New York, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Beloved and devoted husband of Joyce nee Sochen. Cherished father of Julie Schrager, Sarina (Ken Loving) Schrager, Abbey (Paul) Schrager Turilli, Adam (Cathy) Schrager. Loving grandfather of Emily, Claire, Sam, Caleb, Quinn, Harper, Clark, and Payton. Dear brother of Stan (Rita Claudia) Schrager and Barry (Cheryl) Schrager, brother-in-law to June Sochen, and uncle and cousin to many.

Leonard was a role model, leader, and mentor to everyone in his family and to those he encountered throughout his personal life and professional career as a friend, lawyer, advisor, confidant, partner, teacher, professor, and dean. Leonard always made time to listen and counsel and provided thoughtful and reasoned guidance and wisdom to everyone within his orbit. He was an active president and board member of numerous Chicago nonprofit legal organizations.

Leonard’s funeral service will be held on July 29, 2024, 10am at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Boulevard, Wilmette, Illinois, 60091. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Instead of sending flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Leonard’s valued organizations, the Chicago Bar Foundation (chicagobarfoundation.org/donate/), or to a charity of your choice.
