Loretta Ellen Becker (née Silverman) passed away on February 14, 2024. She is survived by Louis Becker, her adoring husband for over 57 years; her children Aaron (Bonnie) Becker, Eli Becker, and Ezra Becker; her grandchildren Izzie Becker and Zeke Becker; and her sisters Carol (Mort) Drexler and Shirley Silverman.
Loretta was valedictorian of her class at Roosevelt High School. She studied physics as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, and pursued a PhD in physics at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she met and fell in love with Louis. She published several scholarly articles in physics, and only halted her studies to start a family. Loretta taught mathematics at Collins High School and then at Mather High School in Chicago for many years. She was a long-time volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and a certified Master Gardener. Loretta was also an avid reader and theater-goer. Above all, Loretta was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She brought kindness into this world, and made everyone she met feel special.
Friends and family will gather for funeral services for Loretta that will be held at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 West Montrose Avenue, Norridge, Illinois 60706.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, or to the House of Welcome at the North Shore Senior Center, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield, Illinois 60093.
