Marianne “Gini” Hartzmark, 67, of Delray Beach and Chicago passed away on December 18, 2023 after a year-long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Gini left an imprint on every individual that crossed her path during her vibrant and indomitable 67 years, whether in person or through the words on the pages of her six novels and numerous other publications. Her children were often nervous that their fellow classmates were only pretending to be friends with them to have an excuse to hang out with their dynamic, magnetic mother.
Gini’s charismatic energy and generous nature touched hundreds of lives across the many cities she lived in. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Helen Pelikan, Silvia Heller, and Malina Schneider, by her three children Sam, John, and JoAnna, by her daughter-in-law Amanda, by her two grandchildren Max and Eddie, and by her husband Michael — whom she met in December 1973. The pair — set up on a double date, just not with each other — were drawn to one another after that night and have been married more than 43 years. He and the family will miss her loving nature, fierce companionship, and her dry wit. Taken from us far too soon, all who know her will love her always.
A memorial service celebrating Gini’s life will be held in Chicago on Sunday January 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to RSVP (http://tinyurl.com/4seyskm3) .
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made in Gini’s memory to Lurie Cancer Center, The Breast Oncology Program at the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers, or Alliance Française de Chicago.
